Earning his keep
With tax season around the corner, it's time to throw out old tax stuff from years back. The house doesn't have a fireplace or paper shredder, but there is a Zaire. The paperwork got stuffed into a box and placed it in the cage. Zaire immediately got to work. He gets distracted kind of easy though.

Zaire's Rings of Fortune
Zaire's most favorite/hated toy is his Caitec Rings of Fortune puzzle. It is made of a hard acrylic, with layers of rings that turn. Each level of the rings has a hole for treats to drop through to the level below. He hasn't quite figured out that the rings turn. He shakes and shakes it until the treat eventually falls out. It's kind of fun to watch him and keeps him busy. His favorite treats are the lafeber's tropical berries. I get a smaller size to fit through the hole of this foraging toy.

Cleaning house
Now that Christmas is over, there is a lot of cleaning to do around here. Yesterday I organized Zaire's new cage and am going through my old things to throw out. Mali enjoys watching the cleaning show. I snapped a photo of her with my new camera phone.

Zaire's New House
Zaire's 22 year old powder coat Cal cage has gotten downright hard to clean. He's been picking the powder coat off one of the skirts and the back of the door. He was also able to climb into the catch tray underneath and shred all the paper. Frustrated, I threw the cage up on KSL and sold it for $100 in under a week of it being online. This was great, except Zaire was then homeless. He had to live in his carrier for awhile. Luckily it was Blackfriday when I sold it and after scouring the reviews and sale cages, I settled on a stainless steel cage from Caitec. Even on sale, it was still super expensive, but I really wanted an easy to clean cage. Two weeks later, it showed up by freight! The cage snapped together really easy without tools and it is beautiful. Zaire is just feeling it out still, but I hope this cage is a winner.

Phonebook battle ground
Zaire has declared war on phonebooks. No phonebook is safe from this cage shark. Or maybe he's just getting the confetti ready for New Year's Eve. He is sort of the festive type.
